The reading help runs on the phone rather than in a datacentre. Ask it to explain a word, summarise the chapter you have just finished, remind you who a character is, or quiz you on what you have read, and the answer is computed locally — so it works on a plane and costs nothing per use.

Around the reader sit the things that make a book stick: offline translation in more than forty languages, text-to-speech, bionic reading, a vocabulary builder with flashcards, reading statistics, cloud sync and OPDS catalogue support. It is free and ad-free, with no trackers in it.

Which file formats does Shelfy Reader open?

Does the AI need an internet connection?

No. Word explanations, chapter summaries, character tracking and comprehension quizzes are computed on the phone, which is why they work in flight mode and cost nothing per use.
